  • The Perfect Summertime Lunch

    IMG_9440

Would you believe I made this?

And it took less than 10 minutes.

I washed and cut Romaine lettuce into bite sized pieces, then scattered a bunch on the bottom of my plate.
I cut radicchio into strips and tossed that on top of the Romaine lettuce.
I opened a jar of pitted Greek kalamata olives from Trader Joe's and tossed some of those around the plate as well.
I also opened a jar of dolmas, or stuffed grape leaves (also from Trader Joe's), and took three out to place around the plate.
I threw some grape tomatoes on the plate as well.
Then I crumbled some Greek feta over the top of everything, trying to be as even as possible with the distribution.
After all that, I poured some Italian vinaigrette all over the salad, and began eating.  (Well, I took a picture first, obviously!)

Oh, and the bread?  Also from Trader Joe's - par-baked ficelle, so before I began anything else, I popped that in my toaster oven at 375, and pulled it out, sliced it in half, then swiped on a little butter.  "Freshly baked bread" in just minutes without any of the work!

The perfect summertime meal, really!  And honestly, you could get every ingredient here, inexpensively, at Trader Joe's (although I'm not sure about the radicchio, everything else, for sure, is available there).  I that store!

    Happy eating!

  • As American as Baseball and Apple Pie

I'm a huge baseball fan.  I root for the New York Mets and there is nothing more exciting than some really excellent clutch hitting in the 9th (this past Saturday's Mets v. BoSox AND Yankees v. Phillies games were super amazing because of some really great hitting and fielding in the 9th innings, for both teams).

Obviously, food is also one of my great passions.  So going to new ballparks and trying the various regional foods that I can get at the different stadiums really appeals to me - it's a fantastic marriage of my two passions.

What foods do you find yourself always eating at baseball games?

Is there anything your home team's stadium is known for that I should try when I go for a game?

(I plan on going to every MLB stadium at least once in my life!)

  • Hi! I'm the Feisty Foodie

    Name: Yvo, the Feisty Foodie

    Age: 28

Favorite foods: a perfectly cooked rib eye steak; dumplings; cheap eats!; pork in its many glorious forms; but really, anything that tastes good - if it tastes good, I'll eat it!

Signature dishes: bacon fried rice; BBQ pulled pork; miso glazed cod; anything that tastes good!

Favorite restaurant/s: Morimoto NYC; I rarely go to a restaurant (especially high end and/or expensive places)more than once because there's so much more to try out there, but I do have a few favorite fallbacks, but I can't share those or I won't be able to get a table anymore!  :)

Random things about yourself: I love food in all its forms, and learning about food of any kind.  I'm always looking for something delicious to eat, inexpensive makes it even better.  I want to know as much about all cuisines as possible, and I am constantly trying to figure out a new recipe instead of looking one up on the internet.  Sometimes that means I "invent" something that someone else out there already figured out long ago (like evolution, with Charles Darwin and the other guy...) - I can only hope that I get to be Charles Darwin instead of 'the other guy', hehe.

Oh, I also pack my lunch on a near daily basis in the Japanese bento fashion - http://feistybento.blogspot.com - to save money, eat healthy, and keep watch over what I'm eating (and yes, partially to control my weight, as I have some issues with my weight fluctuating rapidly).
